More about acai berries...

Acai berries are considered to be a superfruit (it was Nicholas Perricone MD who first announced acai berries as one of the top 10 superfoods of the world), because they are rich in antioxidants and other important nutrients, such as potassium, iron, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E and Omega oils (including essential fatty acids).

In fact, pure acai berries have 15-20 times the antioxidants (anthocyanins) that red grapes have! Anthocyanins are incredibly powerful antioxidants, derived from the same essence that gives acai berries their amazingly deep purple colouring.

What are antioxidants?

Acai berries are high in antioxidants, plus we have added other antioxidant-rich foods and herbs into these acai berry capsules to create an even more more powerful antioxidant supplement. Why?

Well, antioxidants are natural compounds and potent nutrients that may help the body to fight the harmful effects of free radicals - unstable molecules that can lead to cellular damage. They are produced as a result of the everyday stresses facing the body, including exposure to pollution, poor diet, alcohol intake, illness, exercise and inflammation.

It is thought that, by helping to stabilise free radicals and thereby prevent a damaging chain reaction where healthy cells also become unstable, antioxidants can help to support a healthy immune system, as well as general health and vitality.

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a nutrient that is found in the skin of red grapes and certain other fruits, but it is mainly derived from Japanese knotweed. It is a type of natural phenol, which has been known to the natural health industry for some time, but attracted wider attention in 1992, when it was suggested as the explanation for the claimed cardio-protective effects of wine. The full effects and potential health benefits of resveratrol are a topic of continued scientific investigation.

Grape seed extract

Grape seed extract contains a broad spectrum of nutrients, including protein, lipids, carbohydrates and polyphenols. It is also rich in proanthocyanidins, which are similar to flavonoids. Studies have shown that the antioxidant power of polyphenols is 20 times greater than vitamin E and 50 times greater than vitamin C, which makes grape seed extract an ideal means of supporting the body against oxidative and free radical damage. One particular type of phenol found in grape seed is called procyanidin, which also supports eye health, joint flexibility and the circulatory system.

Pomegranate

Native to Iran, the Himalayas and northern India, the pomegranate is packed with vitamins A, C, E and iron and is often referred to as a “fruity panacea” because of its high nutrient content. As such, it is widely used by natural health practitioners. In Ayurvedic medicine, for example, the rind of the fruit is used to support digestive health and a clean gastro-intestinal system. It is now also known that the rind contains ellagitannins. The polyphenols present in this so-called “superfruit” have been studied, and continue to be studied, for their role in supporting health and beauty. For instance, many cosmetic preparations include pomegranate polyphenols, because they have been proven to protect the skin from sun damage and to promote the production of collagen.
